Welded aluminum construction offers a lightweight system of high-strength alloy that's stronger and more durable than wood. All fasteners are of stainless steel. Aluminum systems can be disassembled and reused at different locations and set up again in almost any configuration. The aluminum surface is for practical purposes maintenance-free. Installation is quick and easy and, since it can be considered a temporary structure, normally requires no building permit.
Wood requires regular maintenance to clean, reapply preservative, and replace old warped or damaged boards. Non-skid strips are necessary, and they will also require periodic replacement. Support legs for wood ramps are typically sunken into the ground, and generally require a contractor and building permit. When a wood ramp is disassembled it is usually destroyed, and the resulting debris isn't good for anything and must be hauled away.
Having said all that, if you're handy working with wood and really committed to it due to personal preference, homeowner's association covenants, or some other reason, contact us and we'll send you information on a hybrid aluminum-wood system that might be just what you're looking for. We provide the aluminum legs and support structure, and you add the wooden ramp surface and hand rails.
By the way, we don't offer installation for hybrid ramps, but can send you complete instructions for your review before you make any commitments.
